Don't you think social media made you more creative?

While building my Pinterest folder searching for inspiring ideas for my home and our first mail order catalogue, I came across these beautiful images taken by Lars Botten.
It may take a few years before I take nice shots like this but I realized this afternoon that I'm looking at photography, fashion and creative inspiration in a complete different way than I used to, let's say before starting blogging.
Nowadays, I will look at the light of a photo or the stylism, I will try to imagine how I could replicate a similar atmosphere or setting in my own photos.
I think that even if some still think that social media a fad - although I think its more down to the fact that something better comes along on the market like Pinterest and we just move on with the next best thing because it's quicker and easier to use - blogging, facebook, Tumblr and now Pinterest have made us all a lot more creative and have made us better at writing, sewing, styling or taking photography, whatever it is we enjoy doing.
Which is why I'm posting these beautiful shots by Lars Botten and I hope that, somehow, like me, you will find some inspiration to draw from these portraits.
On a different subject, my pallet coffee table is now finished (see totally out of focus image here) and it leaves me incredibly happy and proud of my little DIY achievements. I will try to take nicer pictures tomorrow. In the meantime, have a wonderful evening. Bises

Alors que j'ajoutais de belles images dans mon cahier d'inspiration sur Pinterest pour trouver des idees pour la maison et notre premier catalogue de vente par correspondance, je suis tombee sur ces belles images de Lars Botten.
Cela prendra peut-etre quelques annees avant que je prenne de belles photos comme celles-ci mais cet apres-midi, j'ai realise que maintenant je regarde les photos, la mode et tout mode d'expression artistique d'une facon totalement differente d'il y a quelques annees, genre avant que je commence ce blog.
Maintenant, je regarde la lumiere d'une photo ou le stylisme, j'essaie d'imaginer comme je pourrais reproduire la meme atmosphere ou composition dans mes photos. Meme si certains pensent que le media social n'est qu'une mode - et je pense que nous passons surtout a autre chose parce que le nouveau truc qui arrive sur le marche comme Pinterest est en fait beaucoup plus rapide et facile d'utilisation - en gros blogging, facebook, Tumblr et maintenant Pinterest nous a tous/toutes rendu beaucoup plus creative et nous a permis de nous ameliorer en ecriture, couture, stylisme ou photographie, quelque soit l'activite que l'on prefere.
C'est pourquoi je poste ces jolies photos de Lars Botten et j'espere que, comme moi, vous trouverez un peu d'inspiration a tirer des ces beaux portraits.
Dans un sujet totalement different, ma table basse pallette est finie (voir la photo floue ici) et cela me rend tres heureuse et tres fiere de mes efforts de bricolage. J'essaierais de prendre de jolies photos demain. En attendant, je vous souhaite une bonne soiree. Bises

Grey shutters...

While painting a pallet for my next DIY project, I had little breaks on Pinterest (is this thing totally addictive or what!? It's so easy to use....I love it!).
Then you know how it is, you go from one image to another and then I came across one that remimded me of the work of photographer Frederic Vasseur who takes gorgeous images so I went onto his site and fell in love with these simple shutters painted in grey....Perfect for a beach house...

Tout en peignant une pallette pour ma prochaine idee brico, je faisais des petites pauses sur Pinterest (on devient vite accro a ce truc! C'est tellement facile a utilser....J'adore!).

Et puis vous savez comment ca se passe, vous allez d'une image en une autre et je me suis tombee sur une qui m'a rappele le travail du photographe Frederic Vasseur qui prend de superbes images et donc je suis allee sur son site et je suis tombee amoureuse de ces volets tout simple peints en gris....Parfait pour une maison de vacances...

Father's Day moodboard {By Aurora}

I'm SU-PER excited about our UK Bank Holidays weekend starting tonight because I have plans you see, DIY, creative plans!
I'm planning to paint our bathroom to cover the wall which blue like these (gorgeous on plates but a bit too 80s for my taste in a bathroom), style the cupboard I painted last weekend with blackboard paint, go to the Flower market in Columbia Road to get an Olive tree for our front door and take photos of Mila for her Birthday invitation because that's it, we've decided on the theme.... It won't be an Ugly Betty party but an Old Men pool party with kids having mustache, hats, braces etc...and of course catch up with friends.
And frankly given the awful weather we are having, it will be nice to just potter around the house.

Je suis SU-PER excitee par le weekend de 3 jours que nous avons a partir de ce soir parce que j'ai plein de projets de deco et de brico!
Je prevois de peindre notre salle de bain pour couvrir le mur qui est bleu comme ca (superbe sur des assiettes mais un peu trop annee 80s pour mon gout), faire de jolies photos du placard que j'ai peint le weekend dernier avec de la peinture de tableau, aller au marche aux fleurs a Columbia Road pour acheter un olivier pour mettre a cote de la porte d'entree et prendre des photos de Mila pour son anniversaire parce que ca y est, on a decide du theme....Ce ne sera pas une Ugly Betty party mais une Old Men pool party avec les enfants ayant des moustaches dessines, portant chapeaux et bretelles etc...et bien sur voir les copains.
Et franchement vu le temps horrible qu'on a a Londres, je prefere rester a la maison tranquillou a faire mes trucs.

My home in France {The Kitchen}

Despite all the photoshoots (here and here and there), I've never managed to have a shot that was showing the three pendant lights by Kathleen Hills I hung in the kitchen of our holidays home....until my brother took this photo.
So from left to right, you can see the Star pendant light, the Cone pendant light and the Large pendant light.
The Screen poster on the release figures of Trainspotting is from my days working at Universal Pictures International and the Kitchen units are from our Swedish friends.

Malgre tous les photoshoots (ici et ici et la), je n'ai jamais pu avoir une photo de la cuisine montrant les trois suspensions de Kathleen Hills que j'avais accroche dans la cuisine de notre maison de vacances....jusqu'a ce que mon frere prene cette photo.

Donc de gauche a droite, vous pouvez voir la Star pendant light, la Cone pendant light et la Large pendant light.

Le poster Screen poster avec les ventes du film Trainspotting est un souvenir de ma vie anterieur chez Universal Pictures International et les unites de cuisine viennent de chez nos amis suedois.

Beautiful wooden desk

I have spent the morning drooling over House Doctor catalogue, ordering more goodies for our shop (tough job huh!) and of course! re-ordering this light...but today I'm really in love with this beautiful, wooden desk that a customer asked us to add to our collection.
I like how the three drawers come in three different colours. It's little detail like this that I love and make our collection a bit more special....I think
Talking of which, since last night, we had an unusual amount of orders from Australia and I was wondering if anyone knew if we had been featured in a blog or in the press....Jeska told me on twitter that one of her friends from Australia had facebooked this bag onto her page...Gosh I love social media! It's such a nice, happy way to share creative, beautiful things!

J'ai passe la matinee a 'baver' sur le catalogue de House Doctor, a commander des nouveaux objets super sympas pour le magasin (mon boulot est un enfer huh!) et bien sur! a re-commander cette lampe...mais aujourd'hui, j'ai vraiment un coup de coeur pour ce joli bureau en bois qu'une cliente nous a demande d'ajouter au site.
J'aime beaucoup les trois tiroirs peints en trois couleurs differentes. C'est le genre de petits details que j'aime et qui font que notre collection un peu speciale.....je crois.

Sinon, depuis hier soir, nous avons recu un nombre inhabituel de commandes de l'Australie et je me demandais si quelqu'un en Australie nous avait vu sur un blog ou dans la presse...

Inspiring stylism by Pia Jane Bijkerk

I will start by my deepest apologies to all the talented photo stylists out there but I have to be honest, I never really appreciated how much the vision and style of a stylist had on a photoshoot until I watched Michael Paul shooting our home in France. Paul is one of these rare photographers who take amazing images but also know how to enhance a room and a shot by styling them. I'm hugely grateful for all the amazing photos he took of our home and which ended in magazines all around the world and for sharing his tips with me.
Since then, I have developed a passion for photo stylism. I had a little go at it when Francois shot our lounge and I will do it again when our London home is shot at the beginning of June for Heart Home magazine but I have a long way to go before achieving the style of Pia Jane Bijkerk and that's fine. I'm happy to enjoy the learning process and be inspired by talented people like her.
Pia creates visual poetry, her stylism is magical, feminine and creative and below are photos of some of the bookstores she styled in Australia for the launch of her new book My Heart Wanders. Enjoy!

Je commencerais par offrir mes plus plates excuses a tous les stylistes photos de talent mais pour etre honnete, je pense que je n'avais jamais realise a quel point l'oeil, la vision d'un styliste de photo comptaient sur un photoshoot jusqu'a ce que je regarde Michael Paul photographie notre maison en France. Paul est un de ces rares photographes qui prend des photos superbes mais qui aussi sait comment rendre une piece, une photo encore plus belle en bougeant quelques objets et je suis tres reconnaissante de toutes les photos magnifiques qu'il a prise de notre maison qui a fini dans de nombreux magazines dans le monde entier mais aussi d'avoir partager avec moi quelques uns de ces tuyaux.

Depuis, j'ai developpe une passion pour le stylisme photographique. Je m'y suis un peu essaye lorsque Francois a photographie notre salon et de nouveau lorsque notre maison de Londres sera photographie par le magazine Heart Home magazine mais j'ai un sacre bout de chemin avant d'arriver a la cheville de Pia Jane Bijkerk et it's ok. Pour l'instant, je savoure ces moments ou j'apprends quelque chose de nouveau et ou je continue a etre inspiree par des gens talentueux comme elle.

Pia cree de la poesie visuelle, son stylisme est magique, feminin et creatif. Dessous, se trouvent quelques photos des magasins de livres dont elle a decore les devantures pour le lancement de son nouveau livre My Heart Wanders en Australie.

I keep collecting images of kitchen with white units...different styles...a bit Deli looking, a bit industrial, often contemporary but always white and BAM! I see the above and I'm thinking..umm...black units, how you doin'?

Sunday inspiration/DIY project

So back home, instead of painting our bathroom as I had planned, I painted the cupboard under our stairs with blackboard paint and I love the result!

Mes tresors d'Arcachon

Each time, I go home, my mum and I scour street markets, junk shops in search for new treasures. Last time we went down there was for Easter while Kate and Will were getting married in London. Steve spent a few days adding windows and a door to our tree house and I changed the hobb in our other home but that was about it because I couldn't really bothered with heavy DIY
Traditionally, there is a little place next to Arcachon that always organizes a vide-grenier (kind of car boot sales) where you can also enjoy l'omelette pascale (Easter omelette) with a little glass of wine. It's a very simple event. Often the weather is just glorious and spending the morning browsing for vintage treasures while ending with a nice little meal with family is simply perfect and just what you need on holidays.

Chaque fois que l'on part chez nous, ma mere et moi faisons le tour des brocantes et vide-greniers pour trouver de nouveaux tresors. La derniere fois que nous sommes descendus c'etait pour le weekend de Paques alors que Kate et Will se marriaient a Londres. Steve a passe quelques jours a equiper notre cabane dans l'arbre de fenetres et d'une porte et j'ai juste change la gaziniere dans cette autre maison parce que franchement je n'etais pas tres motive pour faire du bricolage.
Il y a un petit coin juste a cote d'Arcachon (le port de l'Aiguillon) qui organises toujours un vide-grenier ou l'on peut egalement manger l'omelette pascale accompagne d'un petit verre de vin. C'est tout simple. Souvent, le temps est magnifique et passer la matinee a chercher des tresors et finir cela par un petit repas familial est tout simplement parfait et tout ce dont on a besoin en vacances.

We're 6 years old this month....

As I mentioned early this week, Elodie and I launched BODIE and FOU 2 weeks before I gave birth so our concept store is also 6 years old this month!
To reflect the changes in our company, in our collection and a bit of our "Frenchness" (if there is such a word), we've treated ourselves to a new strapline.

I like this!

I'm still wondering what I should do with my stairs now that I've taken the carpet off. Should I leave them raw and paint each side white like these or paint everything in white...The jury is still out and until I've made up my mind, they will stay as they are....looking very very industrial but I like how simple and contemporary these black stairs look.

Je suis toujours en train de me demander ce que je vais faire avec mon escalier maintenant que j'ai enleve la moquette. Est ce que je devrais les laisser brut et peindre chaque cote de la marche en blanc comme ceux-ci ou peindre tout en blanc...Pour longtemps, je n'en sais rien et tant que je n'ai pas pris ma decision, ils resteront brut, tres brut limite industriel mais j'aime beaucoup le look simple et contemporain de ces escaliers noirs.

Who is the designer?

I bought this lovely paper garland last week in Paris from concept store Serendipity to hang on my moodboard at work. It is made with paper from Nepal and comes in all sorts of colours. Does anyone know who the designer is?
I apologise for the quality of the photos but I took them with my iphone....

I won't be able to attend this Private Sale because we just came back from France but next time we're off to our holiday home, I hope I'll be able to meet up with Caroline and Olivia and do a bit shopping with Sandie
Julie also moved down there a couple of weeks ago and maybe they can have a private sale together next time....well I say this, you do whatever you want girls

Happy birthday!

6 years already! Pffu...crazy...but so many good memories!

Two weeks before you came out, Elodie & I gave birth to something else.
One day before you arrive, I broke my waters on top of a ladder while painting a kitchen.
Then, I spent two months of pure bliss with you in this house until we could take a decent passport photo of you with your eyes open to head back to London.
And out of everything I do, out of everything I have, the thing I love the most in life is being your mum!
Happy 6th Birthday ma cherie!

To an over-excited Mila...

Mila: "EVERYTHING!"

6 ans deja! Pffu...c'est dingue!
Deux semaines avant que tu sortes, Elodie & moi avions donne naissance a quelque chose d'autre.
Un jour avant, j'ai perdu mes eaux en haut d'une echelle alors que je peignais une cuisine.
et ensuite Deux mois de pur bonheur dans cette maison jusqu'a ce que nous puissions prendre une photo de passeport ou tu aurais les yeux ouverts pour rentrer a Londres.
Et de tout ce que j'ai et de tout ce que je fais, ce que j'aime le plus dans la vie c'est etre ta maman!

Busy weekend...BBQ friday night, brunch yesterday morning, diner at the pub last night, re-brunch this morning, we spent the whole weekend eating and to top it up, this afternoon, I'm making chocolate pecan brownies for Mila to take to school as she turns 6 tomorrow!
I'm also planning to hang a few art prints in the hallway, take photos of the treasures I brought back from France and potentially start painting a pallet in white (yes white again!) to make a coffee table out of it so I'm off.

Weekend tres 'busy'...BBQ vendredi soir, brunch hier matin, diner au pub hier soir, re-brunch ce matin, on a passe le weekend a manger et pour couronner le tout, cet apres-midi, je vais faire des brownies au chocolat et noix de pecan pour que Mila les emmene a l'ecole car demain elle a 6 ans!

Je vais aussi accrocher quelques illustrations dans le couloir, prendre en photo les tresors que j'ai rammene de France et potentiellement, peindre une palette en blanc (oui encore en blanc!) pour en faire une table basse donc j'y vais!

Rosie Flo's colouring Fashion Show

I was looking at the Rosie Flo's Fashion Show boxset this morning and I was really delighted to have this in our collection because the boxset is very pretty and nicely done but also, Mila has so many Birthday parties to attend, each time it is a real headache to find something nice and stylish for her friends...and easy to pack. And for me, this pretty colouring boxset just ticks all the boxes!

Ce matin, j'ai regarde les nouveaux produits que nous avions recu et j'ai adore le Rosie Flo's Fashion Show boxset d'abord parce que la boite est super mimi mais surtout Mila a tellement d'invitations a des anniversaires, que chaque fois , je me prends la tete pour trouver un cadeau sympa, original et classe...et facile a emballer. Et la, ce boxset de coloriage est juste parfait!
