Fil de Fer

While tidying up my corner in the office, I came across a receipt from Fil de Fer, a gorgeous shop I visited last time I went to Copenhagen and thinking of it, I can't thank enough my Danish Friend Charlotte for taking me around Copenhagen's most gorgeous shops. I had the most wonderful weekend there. Copenhagen is small but I loved it!
Fil de Fer (which is run by a French guy) was like a little corner of heaven and if I didn't have to fly back to London, I would have left with a lot more vintage treasures, especially one of their gorgeous French vintage chandeliers, or maybe a gorgeous industrial locker....the shop is filled with stunning, sought-after French vintage pieces hand-picked by the owner and if you're planning to go to Copenhagen in the near future, I can't recommend you enough to go and visit this wonderful place.

Fil de Fer, Store Kongensgade 83 A, 1264 Købehavn K, Tel: 33 32 32 46

Another shop I enjoyed browsing was Atelier September, that specializes in Danish antiques.

I like this...

I think the contrast I like the most when it comes to interiors is when sleek, contemporary designs like this gorgeous cluster light are enhanced against rustic, vintage, industrial materials.

Exciting news

This week has been particularly full of good news...
First, my brother - le Photographe - who took this great photo of Corto, his French bulldog, had one of his shots published on a double-page spread (!) in Focus, a Dutch photography magazine (imagine the feeling when you first see your work published in a national mag!).
Then a magazine contacted me to shoot our holidays home in France and Steve's tree house.
This morning, coming back from his run, Steve found a lovely, shabby white wardrobe which is just perfect for our newly painted lounge and on the work-front, I've been getting some really good CVs this week for these two positions. So now I'm really excited to meet everyone for the first round of interviews because I have big plans for BODIE and FOU and I can't wait to get started with a cool, enthusiastic team to make them happen!

Bedtime readings: present & future

Is it just me or are you the same?
When I'm on holidays I can easily read 4 books in a week while the rest of the year, I only seem to be able to pile up easily 3 months worth of interior magazines, this book on positive thinking I read quickly in New-Zealand (and want to read again to really get it), this business book where I'm featured (which I haven't finished) and then something else good comes out et voila!...It just goes on top of my bedside pile.
The latest book that caught my attention is Kelly Hoppen's new book: Creating a home for the way you live which is a great source of inspiration, especially if you're doing your house up. The book has gorgeous photos, floor plans, mood boards to reconfigure space and make decisions on layout and design. It's very visual and it clearly explains the creative process to turn a concept into reality.
As soon as I'm done with it, I will post a little review on the blog to show you some of the gorgeous and inspiring interiors Kelly has created.

Next on my list is Holly's new book!: Decorate (available from April 2011 in the UK) and I'm super excited for two reasons. First because I will attend her book launch on 13th April at Liberty's and secondly, because I'm currently attending Holly's online course Blogging Your Way
and listening to her podcasts, how passionate she is, I simply can't wait to meet her in person.

Life....

Last weekend, Steve was away for the weekend on a business ski trip so Mila and I had a girly weekend..
Mila: "Maman, I would like to be like you and have everything like you. I want a bag, a blackberry, glasses and some lipstick too"
Me: "umm..."
Mila: "I would like a bag like you!"
Me: "But you have lots of bags already! I've given you a very nice pink one with a big flower on"
Mila: "No, I want a bag like this" (pointing at my bag)
Me: "Aahhh (it's in the genes)....well I promise you, I will give you one when you are older
Mila: "How old? Seven?"
Sadly for my beautiful daughter, not matter how many bags I can get my hands on in the shop, I'm not the kind of mother who will spend £200 on a bag for a five-years old...or on a seven-years old for that matter...:-)

I can't wait for the Summer to arrive...

via Hard to Explain

Moi: "umm..."
Mila: "Je veux un sac comme toi!"
Moi: "Mais tu as deja beaucoup de sacs!
Mila: "A quel age? Quand j'aurais sept ans?"

My home in London

My family moodboard is shaping up...
I'm getting more prints enlarged next week including this one of my brother in Barcelona and one from Christophe (Elodie's husband) pictured here. At the moment, I haven't decided if I lose the black Japanese tape on the wall (the truth is that the masking tape keeps falling off the wall and it's driving me nuts) and do something like this instead or maybe a mix.
I don't want to frame every single photo because I want to retain the informal vibe that our family home has and I like the white space between each photo so right now, I just let it sink.
The two photos were taken by Francois and were my first attempt to interior photo stylism...

Mon family moodboard commence a prendre forme...

Inspiring stylism

I've always admired the stylism and the photography of Tine K's catalogues which are beyond beautiful...I never felt the need to post about it because I'm sure you've seen each collection everywhere and anywhere on planet blog but as I'm dipping my toes into photo stylism, I just thought these were far too inspirational for not being added to my mood moard and hopefully yours....
PS:
I've enrolled to Holly's course Blogging Your Way to get better at this time-consuming but yet inspiring & addictive hobby and consequently I have made a few tweakings to my About page. If you have 2 min, I would be hugely grateful if you could read it and let me know what you think. Merci

PS:
Merci

Stockholm flat to sell

If you're looking to buy a gorgeous, stylish flat in Stockholm, you're in luck, I found you one....No seriously, it has been a while since I did a house tour but I couldn't resist Lotta Agaton's home now on the market, because I think a lot of inspiration for final touches can be drawn from these room shots.
Typical of scandinavian homes (which we all love, don't we!?), Lotta's place is looking very welcoming, light and airy and very graphic too!
Lots of B&W prints from Therese and black home accessories....a black rubber vase on a white coffee table, a white floor-standing light next to a dark sofa. A bit of nature with a few green ceramic vases like these mixed with soft wood vessels...and a set of Hans Wegner wishbone chairs...
My top favourite details:
*
the narrow shelf in the lounge displaying prints and big letters adding a creative 3-Dimension to the wall
* the two prints in the kitchen...simple and almost soothing
*
the big numbers on each side of the doorframe. Yes corridors are often boring and these numbers give a positive visual kick to the wall
*
the big EAT letters in the kitchen (as per above).

My bedroom in B&W

My brother Francois took these photos...
I love no 1 & no 2. For the past week, I have been living in this fur vintage jacket, bought for 20 Euros during my last trip to France (very Isabel Marant according to my friend Mandy) and either this pair of Swedish Hasbeens or that one (they were in the sale!)

Photo 1: Sweet sign bought in New-Zealand, Vintage mirror given by Elodie for my birthday years ago
Photo 2:
Mila's 3-D black glasses, B&W photography book. Photo 3: Print on the wall by Therese Sennerholt, Owl vase by House Doctor, linen headboard made by my mum and I, linen pillow covers from Merci Photo 4: 4-string cluster lightKathleen Hills Photo 5: Vintage fur jacket bought in France for 20 Euros, Swedish hasbeens clogs (see retail therapy here).

Sweet Paul magazine

The Spring issue of Sweet Paul magazine is out and if you're not familiar with this mag yet, you're missing out on something good because it is one of the best digital magazines out there with inspiring stylism from Paul Lowe, a Norwegian guy who settled down in NYC.
It was Paul's stylism that inspired me to re-vamp our toilets in France with pages from a book and his blog is always full of yummy recipes, beautiful shots and great little crafts projects.
As this is a Special Kids issues, we have a few of our products featured in this issue: the Angel babygro and the Royal Bird rocking chair.
I'm very happy because they've used one of my favourite photos...One I took of Mila when she was 18 months I think (still fitting in her 12 months old babygro...that's just say everything about the height in my side of the family!) on the beach in Cazaux, where we have our holidays home.
She was still a baby, so cute and cuddly, with gorgeous blond curls...the same little girl that came out two nights ago with that!
Mila: "Maman, I don't know what to do, I wanted to have a playdate with Nicolas on Thursday but Jean WANTS to have a playdate with me on Thursday.."
Me: "yeah so...?"
Mila: "...well I don't know which boy to choose..."
I think I'm going to have to tell her Dad to fit an electronic anti-boys thingy at home...I mean Jean has kissed her twice already...on the lips! :-)

Me: "oui et alors ...?"
