Advent calendar

While this gorgeous advent calendar has been on our mantelpiece for the past two weeks, I haven't had a chance to fill it in with goodies for Mila. I keep meaning to do it but frankly at the moment I seem to spend nights, days and weekends at the warehouse to make sure we don't get behind with Xmas orders so by the time I come home, I'm absolutely dead!
But last night, Steve came back with a flip... advent calendar from Tesco!!! Honestly... so that's it, tonight I've finally got around to do it and put little chocolate coins and balloons with Xmas Father or Father Xmas (I never know in which order we say it) in each of the little boxes until 16th December because she is off to New-Zealand with her dad then and I will join them on 24th (yeah Xmas in a plane...yeah!..not). Anyway, if you want one, hurry up because we only have 14 left in stock

She is gorgeous, isn't she?! I love her so much that I'm going to see her in Paris with Elodie at the end of Jan and then beginning of Feb in London with Steve...la voila, quand on aime on ne compte pas!

I love this look!

Have a great Sunday!

A corner of my bedroom: Emma Cassi

It's very cold in London this morning and while Mila is eagerly waiting for the snow to arrive, I'm really happy to share with you the bedroom corner of French Designer Emma Cassi in London who I mentioned here before. As I was looking at the beautiful photos Emma sent me, I felt really calm. Her bedroom comes across as being very soft, calm and warm...almost soothing and intemporel and the beautiful crib of Hope, her gorgeous baby girl and Hope's little tiny feet suddenly made me feel a bit broody, something I hadn't felt for a while...
Emma Cassi is a shining example of a someone who manages to be extremely talented at everything she does. As a jewellery designer, Emma makes unique, feminine pieces that have been stitched, beaded and embroidered by hand with vintage sequins, Japanese glass beads, semi-precious stones, crystals, Swarovski, and gemstones and you can see her whole collection here or at Anthropologie. She also makes gorgeous paper gardlands, has recently done an exquisite range of Christmas cards for Designers Guild, she is a talented Stylist and I'm totally in love with her first (and stunning!) photoshoot for Papier Mache. If you are in London next week, you are in luck as Emma is having a Jewellery sale next week (see details below)
★★★★

I've always loved this brand but I think I love their stylism, aesthetic, photography and greys even more....will go and see them at the end of Jan. in Paris...

DIY light

I don't know...there is something very homely about this lamp made out of fabric scraps and I think it would make a wonderful little DIY projet to turn a one cold, wintery weekend into a creative one...Although I think I'll try mine with scraps of white and grey fabrics

(c) Photos: MARCUS LAWETT and SY - SINCERELY TEXTILES from IKEA Creative IKEA...

I like this!

Don't you love gardlands?? I love them! Especially in Winter....Apparently it is going to snow on Monday....yippee for a white Christmas :-)

Vous aimez les guirlandes? Moi jadore!

Black is the new black

Do you believe in the saying "what comes around comes around"? I do and I must have been super good because this morning, our lovely French intern Aminata turned up to work with two of her friends to help us to tackle the backlog of orders. I can't thank them enough for their hard work and help that made a huge difference!!! We're back on top of things and tomorrow, we'll ship another 300 of these around the world until the next batch on Tuesday. Bon... enough about work...
I wanted to show you the amazing look book Megan from Mini & Maximus sent me along with this gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous poster that I will hang in my kitchen this weekend but I haven't had time to take photos so in the meantime, I'm showing you the little montage I made of all our beautiful B&W prints because frankly, I think we start having a nice little collection that rocks! Don't you agree??

Letters at home

Today, we received another 200 sets of the Rob Ryan plates, while the driver was unloading our 39 boxes, he got clamped (£300! ouch!). At the same time, 12 (voluminous!) Ovetto recycling bins arrived and the lift chose that specific moment to breakdown (luckily temporarily....) Then a third driver who was delivering large bags of eco-friendly chips so we could pack all our orders safely while being good to the planet, went upstairs to get Genevieve to sign the paperwork while I was dealing with the *cr..* going on downstairs and left without leaving the chips with us....give me strength!!

So I have decided to have a little break to show you something I really love....using big letters like these beautiful red metal letters from House Doctor DK at home which is something La Maison Pujol in France is doing very well. I know that in terms of home styling, it's not new or groundbreaking and I don't care. I don't think a home should follow trends. A home should reflect your style, your lifestyle, your personality, your travels and everything you love in life and for me, who loves design, typography and food, these big, red and striking letters really stroke a chord when I saw them the first time. I think letters are a fantastic way to express your style with a touch of humour and you can easily use these ones separately to add little industrial touches around the home like Maison Pujol or simply give one of each to friends as a Christmas gift!

(C) Photos: top pics from La Maison Pujol photographed by Manolo Yllera, bottom image: Pia Ulin, Little Arrhus from Konfettiform, Via Little Blue Deer

*cool: (kool): Adjective;
1. Something regarded as cool is an admired aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance and style, influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist.
2. Adjective overused by Karine who still thinks she is in her twenties

My bedroom: Work in progress

There is nothing better than a good night sleep to feel upbeat again :-) So here is the wall I painted on Sunday in Pavilion gray from Farrow and Ball. It's a very soft, soothing grey which works perfectly in a bedroom. And against the plaster works, it reminds of the Hausmann style seen in apartments in Paris. My electrician hung this beautiful light for me and next week, I will change the switch to a brushed stainless-steel one and paint the door and skirting boards in white... Do you like it?

Sunday evening

I finished painting my bedroom wall. I should be feeling happy but I'm tired and a bit down. It's cold and dark outside and it's Sunday evening. I just had a chat on facebook with my best friend Manu who lives in Paris. I can't wait to see her in January. This beautiful image of Lauren Ward reminds me of her so this is for her and for all the best friends out there.

A corner of my bedroom: A View To

This morning, I'm very happy to share with you the bedroom corner of Imke Klee in Paris. I came across Imke's poetic, soft and beautiful photos last year and I would really love to have this amazing image in my home. This photo made the cover of one of trend analyst Li Edelkoort's books, Imke works with. Multi-talented, Imke regularly contributes to Edelkoort's Bloom magazine and other trends publications, she is a stylist, she makes delightful fabric covered bead necklaces and keyrings that she sells on Etsy and has a lovely blog I love spending time on.
★★★★

★★From Imke★★
"...on the old dresser you can see a little collection of my favourite personal preciousness - jewelry, parfum, treasure chest...
...my favourite relaxing place is my bed, covered with all natural dyed linens and gauze!
...i love the old intarsia-drawing on the armoire in combination with the South African hand embroidered picture on the little lavender pouch...

Rob Ryan's good news!

Bon...so the first good news is that the Rob Ryan Four Seasons plates will arrive in our warehouse on Monday (just bear with us because we have a HUGE number of back orders).

The second good news is that we will also receive the Rob Ryan mugs, the Rob Ryan bunting.
The third good news (let's go crazy, it's almost Xmas!), we've also added the gor-geous Rob Ryan ceramic vase and the Rob Ryan canvas shopping bag (and you have no more excuse not go green with one of these!).
The 4th good news (and yes....you can send me gifts to B&F Headquarters to thank me) is that you are now going to learn how to make a paper-cut ornament necklace yourself!! You know little chain-like necklaces like the ones he hangs in his studio around his desk lamps which will look amazing around bottles and foodies gifts

What you need
Coloured paper of a good thickness - Piece of string - Pencil - Scalpel - Scalpel blade size 3 with 10A blades (Ryan uses Swan Martin scalpels and blades) - Masking tape - Ornament to put the necklace on

1. Attach the blade to the scalpel very, very carefully. Then wrap masking tape carefully around the blade, exposing just the tip - this will enable you to cut out the fiddly little bits without cutting your fingers.

2. Whether you're making a necklace-label for a bottle or an ornament, you first have to measure how long the necklace needs to be. Take the piece of string and measure the neck of your bottle/ornament to calculate the length. Then loop the measured string on to your paper in the oval shape of a necklace and draw around it to make the template.

3. Draw the pendant on to the necklace - Rob made a bell shape. Then make the necklace thicker by drawing a chain-line effect.

4. Next, begin cutting the necklace out with the scalpel, starting with the small fiddly bits (ie the centre of the paper chain).

5. Write your "label" on the pendant - whatever you write, draw the letters in thick capitals so that they can be cut out to leave a silhouette effect. (Ryan opted for "Life's too long", but feel free to make it more upbeat.) Now carefully cut the letters out.

6. And voila! Ryan made a bright pink necklace for a kitsch cat figurine. But, of course, it can be anything you want.

★★★★

Loving this Royal bird...

and no... I'm not talking about Miss Kate Middleton who will marry Prince William of Wales next year but about this fabulous, eco-friendly Royal Bird rocking chair by Creme Anglaise who just landed in our little boutique.
Handmade out of wood from recycled pallets by French carpenter Jocelyn Costis in the UK, this gorgeous Bird-shaped rocking chair for children is simply eco-friendly design at its best and the perfect addition to a kids bedroom!
PS: Happy thoughts for the weekend will resume in Jan 2011. I'm still happy but now that the Xmas madness has started in our little boutique, I simply don't have time.

PS: Happy thoughts for the weekend re-demarrera en Janvier 2011.

Homemade (really) cards

Yesterday, the weather in London was like this. So, while my mum was sewing a school apron for Mila, I got Mila's rubber stamps out to keep her busy and to make some cool cards...Resultat des cacahouetes (can't translate...would mean something like 'total of peanuts'...see I told you... can't translate)
Mila's time spent on making cards: 20 min
Moi's time spent on making cards: 2 hours (I wasn't slow, I got hooked!)

My mum: "Who do you send kisses to?"
Moi: "ummm..to my customers"...ok maybe not, will keep these for the family
And then, I made smaller ones....

And even smaller ones....with lots of love because we never give enough love and beaucoup de merci because it's nice and polite
I know the 'I' in MERCI is an exclamation mark but we lost the 'I'

On our little shop, we already have a beautiful, stylish card like this and if you order any of these, you will probably want to receive something else other than my dodgy handmade card but I think with these Japanese masking tapes from Papermash, they will be nice little touches to go with any of these. It will be only for a few people anyway because I wont have time to do a lot of them and clearly my child doesn't want to be part of any child labour scheme.

★★★★

I was lost in France yesterday...

...well, lost in blogland that it. I went from one beautiful blog to another and ended up chez Labo'M* where I discovered Hipstamatic, an I-phone app that brings back the look and feel of Lomo and Polaroid...If you love photography like me and have an i-phone, you will love this app. On the contrary, if you haven't an i-phone (sorry Lau), you will probably be just really annoyed with me :-(
*Emy makes beau-ti-ful paper garlands by the way...

(C) Photos: Labo'M, handmade little cloud: Lovely vintage

A corner of my bedroom: Designers' Block

This morning, I'm very happy to show you Di's bedroom from Northumberland. Di was the founder of this fabulous website and I remember saying to Steve back in 2005: How does she do it? Her site is amazing and she is everywhere! Funnily enough, a year later, she emailed me as she was planning a career change and one thing leading to another, Steve and I ended up acquiring WhereDidYouBuyThat.com while Di went on to launch successfully her own furniture range with Ghost Furniture. She has also a great blog: Designers' Block where you will find a lot of quirky stuff. At first glance, Di looks like Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous but she is really good fun, very knowledgeable about design, has a refreshing non-sense approach and I love her to bits.
★★★★

★★From Di★★
"The Teddy & Mask: This was passed down to me when I was born so I only know it is older than 59. His name is Little Ted, not very imaginative but very descriptive. The mask was sent to me by Gentry de Paris as a gift for featuring it on my blog, again very descriptive.
The Bed - Our bed is huge and has 2 separate mattresses so we can't feel each other moving around. I like it's plainness, I hate over fussy beds they take too long to get into.

The Ghost Cupboard - The place I keep all my little fabric finds for Ghost Furniture. The baskets on top are from left to right - a vintage find, Cabbages and Roses and Lulu Guinness. They hold passementerie finds from Paris. I love rummaging through these things, so inspirational.

Reading in Bed - The only chance I get to read is when I go to bed so I need everything at hand. The little shelves were given to me by my friend Tara in Paris, they are from Agape. I have the book I am reading on the top shelf and the other shelves hold the ones I am about to read. How organized is that? My best friend bought me the lamp when we were on a trip to The South of France from a gorgeous little shop in Saint-Tropez.

Hermes Boxes and French Daybed - Happily the Hermes boxes do contain Hermes Scarves, works of art to wear. The French daybed was given to me by my friend Tara in Paris and all my little grandchildren have slept in it and up to now none have woken up in the middle of the night. Magical!
