Karine in the business section of the Evening Post

Evening Post - Business section
European designer products website BODIE and FOU has attracted countless plaudits in the years since it was set up. Karine Kong, who launched it, attributes its success to the quality of the household goods and furnishings on offer. She said: "The media loves to write about our products. Many of our ranges you simply cannot get anywhere in the UK." But building this media interest is also the result of considerable hard work. When she launched her site, Karine invested considerable time in meeting and briefing journalists, showing them products and buidling relationships. The result has been a cascade of free media exposure that has firmly established BODIE and FOU in the contemporary interiors market. Between the first and second years, turnover leapt by 180 per cent. The company, based at the Paintworks in Bath road, Arnos Vale, is continuing to build sales strongly. Karine launched BODIE and FOU with her sister Elodie following a 15-year career in marketing. "It was when I had a baby that I decided to change direction", she explains. "Although I did return to marketing consultancy for a short time after my maternity leave, I decided to dedicate myself full-time to establishing my new business". Karine drew on her marketing background to develop a strategic promotional plan to support the launch of BODIE and FOU. In addition to the concerted editorial campaign, this involves online marketing, including google pay-per-click promotions, competitions and online advertising. Karine also produces a monthly electronic newsletter for her growing customer base - which increases in frequency to become a weekly publication in the run-up to Christmas. She said: "Business Link has been a valuable sounding board in developing my business. "Although marketing is my core skill there are a number of areas where I very much welcomed input from my Business Link adviser"

Squint

I saw Squint's designs a while back when they were featured in the windows of Liberty during the London Fashion week and I thought they were most unusual and very individual but lately they seem to pop up more regularly in front of me....I'm loving them. I think Lisa Whatmough has a very distinctive approach to transform antique furniture into something very contemporary, colourful, fun and original. Like the ceramic lamps by Flavia del Pra, Lisa's designs are very electric yet I love how cheerful the abundance of colours make you feel.

Nice write up in the evening standard

Design-savvy women are creating a new wave of websites crammed with original interiors ideas, says Barbara Chandler.
Meet today's web entrepreneurs. Savvy and self-confident, they are the brains behind a host of design-led sites. Between them, they have accumulated treasures not available elsewhere. Their sophisticated virtual shops are great for present-hunting and original home interiors ideas throughout the year.
Bodie and Fou is run by a pair of French sisters, Elodie & Karine Kong, who have given the business their family nicknames. A blog on their site gives free design tip-offs. "Please, just float through our chic boutique" urges Karine. To their range of French luxury lines they have added upmarket design goodies from all over Europe, from zany gifts (duck-shaped sugar boxed, £5) to serious design (Finn Stone's beautiful ball chairs, £140). Significantly they wish customers a glam Christmas (www.bodieandfou.com)

You may have seen these bedheads and the canopy bed frame in House & Garden magazine (December issue). Beautiful aren't they? These are by Cote Bastide.
Style tip:
To transform your bed into a Grand 4-poster in no time, simply add a set of natural cotton drapes to create a stylish and intimate retreat in your bedroom.

Great piece in the Bristol Evening Post

The Bristol Evening Post wrote a great piece about BODIE and FOU
and WhereDidYouBuyThat.com as both companies run by Karine, are based in Bristol and featured a few shots from Karine and her daughter Mila at home.
The article begins with..
"The French word 'chic' could have been invented for Karine Kong. It epitomises everything about her, from her dress sense to the interior of her home. That innate style can also be seen at Bodie and Fou, the interiors' website which she runs with her younger sister Elodie....." which we all agree with.....

Paulistano chair - MISSONI Special Edition

I'm a big fan of the Paulistano chair by Modernist architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha but this month, we've just launched a Special Edition designed by Rosita Missoni herself!
The great thing about this one is that the cover is reversible and has a stripped pattern on one side and a floral pattern on the other so with one chair, you get two different styles and almost two different chairs!

The Old Oak's Last Dream print

I'm so pleased...the beautiful handmade prints from MisseMai are flying off the shelves, especially The Old Oak's Last Dream (pictured above). It really makes me happy because each time we introduce a new young designer on BODIE and FOU, we obviously follow our hearts but as a small business, we also take a gamble on a designer very few people have heard of, so it is a really nice feeling to see that other people love them too!
